Our Outreach

We are a family of families

In order to sustain and nurture our parish community, we will offer a series of extra events from time to time

We are delighted to welcome to our parish family, Mrs Angela Holleran, presently headteacher of Holy Cross Catholic Primary School in the city centre of Liverpool as the new Headteacher of All Saints Catholic School and Children's Centre-our own parish primary school. We are confident that Mrs Holleran will be happy in our parish school and we offer her all the support and help that she needs. We pray for the needs of the school community in a special way at our rosary on Wedesdays and our Eucharistic Adoration on Fridays.

Fr Gerry sdb was awarded the 2009/10 AMERICAN CHAPEL GRANT sponsored by the English Speaking Union (www.esu.org.uk), an organisation dedicated to improving cordial relationships between the world community through the use of the English language. He took this award up in November 2009 and March 2010; it involved a critical analysis of faith formation programmes both here in the UK and in USA. He has now finshed the final draft of the paper and presented it to the Diocese of Monterey in March 2010. Fr Gerry was asked to address the English Speaking Union at the Liverpool Athenium on 16th April 2010. A copy of the paper is available on www.esu.org.uk

St James at Los Angeles Religious Education Congress 2010

www.recongress.org

Fr Gerry has again been asked to attend the 2010 Religious Education Congress, organised by the Diocese of Los Angles. It is arguably the biggest and best of its kind in the English speaking world attracting 65,000 teachers, catechists, pastors and parish workers from across the English speaking world.

Congress 2010 draws us into the story of God’s Incredible Abundance overflowing in love and compassion and echoed down through the centuries.

To the exiles it is promise of restoration, reminder of a life-giving Spirit, and in Jesus it is a celebration of the wonder and power of a God who revives and revitalizes.

The poet Brendan Kenneally writes:
"Life rises from the crowded clay of doom,
Light dying promises the light-reborn."

New life and light emerging from the crowded clay of doom fills us with courage. The forces of death and despair are overcome; stones and grit that block the flow of life are removed at Jesus’ word. In our emptiness a gracious hand is reaching out lifting us up and even in difficult moments we see with the eyes of faith that there is potential for new life. We take to heart the words of Jesus “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).

Embracing this incredible abundance we trust that it is never too late for God to invigorate and revitalize a person, a church, a world.

We will also work with our partner school at SAN CARLOS in Monterrey where we plan to spend a vey full day with staff and children.  We would like to thank Bishop Richard Garia and the Office of Faith Formation, led by our former retreat preacher, Fr Roy Shelly for their help and financial support.

The overarching principles that need to guide our Ministry are "Evangelization" and "Stewardship". We are essentially a missionary Church. The principles of evangelization spur us on to learn more about our Catholic tradition and how best to celebrate it and share it in today’s society. We are most effective when we work together to build up the Catholic Community. Faith education often can be limited to those moments when we are preparing for a sacramental celebration (Baptism, First Eucharist, Confirmation, or Marriage). As persons we continue to learn all through life in many ways. Congress 08 and our visit to Monterey Diocese will help us to promote a wide variety of ways for people to continue in their process of faith education. We believe that the parish is the very best place for faith development to happen. It is the place where families and individuals come together to pray and celebrate their faith.

For the 2011 Congress we hope to take two members of the Youth Active Team to work with our friends in the Diocese of Monterey and attend the Los Angeles Youth Congress

DAILY MASS SCHEDULE

10.00am Mass in Don Bosco Chapel

Wednesday 10.30: Novena and Rosary

Friday 10.30: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament (During Lent: Stations of the Cross)

HCPT Group 5 in Lourdes with our special children; we will remember your intentions. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR KINDNESS

Let us pray for vocations and for the LEAVING SAFE HARBOURS project; over these next few weeks, we are going to be challenged, as parish families, about our future. In 2010, there will be three, perhaps only two, priests serving the WHOLE of Bootle. Some suggest getting priests from Africa or Poland-is that realisic or fair for the Churches in the developing world? As it is could all the Bootle parishes pay the bills and support their own priest.? We have to be honest and say, "NO" As a parish team  we do not harp on about money, as our parishioners give generously EVERY week; Fr Tom and the Finance Team will present a clear statement of accounts to the parish families-you can see where your generous and kind donations go to and what money we have to spare. Our Church building faces large gas and electricity bills; just like your own homes, we have to have a sytem of maintainence which does cost a lot of money. The LEAVING SAFE HARBOURS project has forced us to be realistic about our future; we need to look at buildings and how we use them. I know this will hurt and there will be tears; we need to support each other and help each other to make the correct decisions for our pastoral area.

As a NEW parish, we need to look at ways at how we can welcome former St Winefride's and St Joan of Arc parishioners. We need to ensure that we do not forget over 113 years of community that these parish. We need to move forward with trust and not forget our rich heritage.

The stautue of St Winefride was dedicated at the 6.00pm Mass on Saturday 8th March 2008.

The statue of St Joan of Arc was dedicated at the 10.30am Mass on Sunday 7th February 2010

Dear brothers and sisters, Lent invites us to “train ourselves” spiritually, also through the practice of almsgiving, in order to grow in charity and recognize in the poor Christ Himself. In the Acts of the Apostles, we read that the Apostle Peter said to the cripple who was begging alms at the Temple gate: “I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, walk” (Acts 3,6). In giving alms, we offer something material, a sign of the greater gift that we can impart to others through the announcement and witness of Christ, in whose name is found true life. Let this time, then, be marked by a personal and community effort of attachment to Christ in order that we may be witnesses of His love. May Mary, Mother and faithful Servant of the Lord, help believers to enter the “spiritual battle” of Lent, armed with prayer, fasting and the practice of almsgiving, so as to arrive at the celebration of the Easter Feasts, renewed in spirit. With these wishes, I willingly impart to all my Apostolic Blessing.
